Presenter:
Brian Marshall Two of the biggest problems students and schools face are transition from one phase of learning to the next and retaining students until the end of year 12. Within Australia around 200,000 young people leave school without the foundation skills they require in order to make a smooth transition to adult life. If we agree that twelve years of worthwhile learning is the benchmark then we need to do all we can to ensure that smooth transition.
This seminar will discuss the various stages of transition, the factors influencing early school leaving and steps that could be undertaken to increase retention and decrease the transition problem. It will also include a look at what has been called 'generation Y' or, as it is sometimes referred to the 'Me gen', and their inherent needs.
What to bring:Please bring pen and note paper. Course notes will be made available to participants if you bring a USB key.
