Presenter:
Brian Marshall As educators and adults what skills have we given our students to enhance their ability to explore their potential and live a safe life? Too many students make subject selections for future courses and even careers based on little knowledge and understanding. Very few people take time to get to know who they really are and where they want to go and how to cope with adverse situations. This seminar will look at ways participants can assist their students plan for their safe future. Topics include: building and maintaining identity and relationships; maintaining well-being; creating and pursuing goals; ethics and values; inquiry and reflective thinking.
What to bring:Please bring pen and note paper. Some course notes will be provided. If you bring a USB key with you I will also give you some enotes.
Before attending the seminar it would be helpful if you were able to do a straw pole of fellow staff members about their students' goals and aspirations.

The theme of the day was great as it was relevant to both teachers and students.
Very helpful for me as a beginning teacher to better clarify a plan for my career. It helped make explicit some procedures to help staff (which could be passed onto my students), know how to set goals and plan actions to reach their goals.
Brian was an excellent presenter who promoted discussion and self reflection during the course. I found the content very interesting and useful towards developing not only my personal development but that of my staff directly under me.
I found the sedond part - student focused component was very beneficial and interesting. I appreciated that the trainer used our names right from the start.
I found this course very informative and useful.
Excellent ideas. Would have liked a little more about activities or ideas that can be used within an existing school structure (or requiring only small modification) without having to modify large slabs of the school routine.
