Darryn Kruse This session will focus on a range of teaching strategies and activities for the years 5-9 history classroom that are both enjoyable and purposeful. Moving beyond the textbook, these activities motivate and stimulate student interest and understanding. Some of the areas covered will include:
- the use of visual stimuli to enhance engagement;
- games and competitions;
- partner and group activities;
- active learning experiences;
- novel and effective note-taking and summarising activities;
- higher order thinking skills and processes;
- developing independent research and information literacy;
- ICT in the history classroom
Participants will leave this session with a range of generic ready-to-use strategies that can be used in the history classroom at years 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 level.
