CG-00 Coordinate Geometry - a conceptual approach with GeoGebra - Online Course Course rating:

Course Description
Presenter: Richard Andrew

This ONLINE course presents a pedagogically sound approach to teaching straight-line Coordinate Geometry utilizing GeoGebra. However, other dynamic geometry software (or simply pen-and-paper) may be used. The course incorporates the proficiency strands from the proposed Australian Curriculum. The success of this engaging, conceptual, inquiry-based approach lies in the fact that students, during the first few lessons, learn to do the following without using a single formula: read gradients from straight lines, sketch straight lines directly from equations (without constructing tables), 'read' an equation directly from its graph and find the midpoints and distance between pairs of points. Students who normally struggle with Coord Geom typically achieve far greater success and confidence with this conceptual approach. Traditional formulas are employed toward the end of the unit once students have 'discovered' the formulas. (No pre-requisite) Accredited PD Hours=7

interesting, good exchange of ideas, good resources, user friendly, not so fond of forums however and would have preferred producing a sample of work maybe
Interesting topics. Good pace and structure.
Useful and insightful. Looking forward to trying to implement it this year.
Some great practical teaching ideas embedded in a holistic approach.
Very useful to some though less to myself only because I was already doing some of suggested activities.
