Presenter: Douglas Butler

Autograph's classroom-friendly operation, coupled with fascinating resources on the web, can bring mathematics to life and help students to see their way through this exciting new curriculum. This hands-on workshop will be conducted using a walk-about graphics pad, and will start with a brief review of Douglas' TSM Resources web site. A dynamic look at the humble straight line for Year 8s, then some dramatic applications of the parabola in the real world; linear programming, trig functions and inverse functions - can all benefit from dynamic visualisations. Calculus starts in Mathematical Methods with a careful look at differentiation and integration. Douglas' unique style of lesson plans for introducing 'e', and establishing why the integral of 1/x is lnx, have been much admired for years. Topics from the Specialist Mathematics course will be included, for example 3D vectors, volumes of revolution and differential equations. All delegates receive a complimentary copy of Autograph 3.3

What to bring:

All delegates will be expected to bring their own laptop and mouse. They will have received a download link in advance to install Autograph (in case they need their IT department to do this for them). It will be a help, but not essential, to have had some time to familiarise with the operation of Autograph before this course. Summary notes will be available online for this course. Delegates will be expected to have familiarised themselves with all the functions and calculus references in the new curriculum.

Great to have hands on practice but Douglas showed us so much. Sometimes I couldn't quite keep up. Excellent teacher, though!
Today was fantastic. I am so inspired by the program as it was intuitive so I can use it straight away.
Excellent demonstration of practical strategies to use autograph in senior maths in particular. Quite a positive sell on Autograph but excellent pedagogic approaches.
Arrangement of tables today, with more people attending meant that I had to keep looking through someone's head and it was difficult to see the screen.
I should have attended both days.
Well presented.
Too much too fast. Would have appreciated some handouts or tutorials.
The ideas presented by Douglas made the introduction of Autograph information teaching essential for improved teaching practices.
Particular relevance to classroom application.
Douglas knew his content and presented a lot of information in an interesting way and in an interesting way in a short amount of time.
Very practical information. Pace was good.
I was left with many skills I could apply immediately.
It's a beginners guide to Autograph. The presentation provided an excellent insight into the use of the program and its application in the class room.
Very useful! Although it would have been good to have summary notes, but I guess it will all be on the TSM website. Lots of exploring to do.
It was very inspiring. Thank you.
Very good ideas for teaching calculus concepts in a way to best aid understanding and avoid confusion using visual demonstrations.
I particularly enjoyed all the teaching tips/ideas on how to use in the classroom.
Very good I learned a lot but at times the presenter went a bit too fast. Hard to follow sometimes.
