Presenter:
Richard Andrew (Previously called 'Teaching for Understanding Stage 4 Maths Course One') This workshop is a detailed examination of a quality teaching approach within Stage 4 Mathematics. The basis to teaching mathematics conceptually lies in creating a learning environment which enables students to become engaged, work mathematically and make the mathematical connections necessary for conceptual understanding to occur. Open-ended questioning, assessment for learning and teaching with an inquiry approach are key strategies which will be demonstrated through the topics Fractions (including decimals, percentages, ratios and rates), Algebra and Chance.
What to bring:Please bring a pen and note paper and if possible a USB stick.

Provided useful materials and teaching tools. It would be better to give out soft copies at the end of the lesson.
Open ended questions and working backwards applications are very interesting and encourage student's deeper thinking.
Particularly enjoyed, open ended questions, fractions %. Good resources for me to work on and develop. Practical activities I can use immediately.
I found it of some value. Some great ideas to take back and implement. Some aspects will take time to put into practice but the long term benefits outweigh the initial time taken.
The course was very well explained. The harder problems were addressed very well and alternative ways of teaching the concepts conceptually were eye openers. I realy liked the examination of open ended questions.
Better if more time spent on teaching ideas instead of discussing importance of conceptual understanding. Fractions well covered but everything else too rushed.
The course has been an excellent eye opener for me. I enjoyed doing all the new methods of approach, to make the lesson more interesting. I am definitely going back to class with some good ideas to teach and hopefully my students understand the lesson better and enjoy the subject.
Great presenter, alot of knowledge with excellent resources kept audience engaged, willing to discuss options and other ways of doing things.
