Introducing the Habits of Mind is easy, but to become a sustained part of classroom practice teachers need a way to infuse them meaningfully into daily classroom practice. This workshop develops these skills. This 2 day workshop takes teachers through the process of infusing Habits of Mind into their curriculum design process that improves BOTH content learning outcomes and students Habits of Mind. Drawing on Wiggins and McTighe's Backward Design Process James Anderson guides teachers through the development of learning outcomes statements for the Habits of Mind, the design of assessment tasks, and finally the sequencing and design and student learning experiences. Over the course of the two days teachers design a complete 6 - 10 week unit of work for use at school. Units created are then shared through the Habits of Mind Resource Library so teachers come away with a their own unit PLUS access to a bank of other teachers units as well.
What to bring:All participants will need a copy of "Succeeding with Habits of Mind" as a reference throughout the two days. Materials for unit development (curriculum guides, resources etc should also be on hand. Many teachers find it useful to have a notebook computer to record their unit of work.
