Presenter:
Joanne Manning The English classroom should be a hive of activity packed with thinking, sharing and enjoying language and literature. This course offers English teachers a number of methods for inspiring learning in their students. Teachers will learn practices for generating regular reading patterns and discussion about texts using strategy-based reading activities. We will also explore the Harvard model of 'cultures of thinking' in the English classroom to set up highly effective routines for thinking about texts. Further, teachers will consider the benefits of offering students choice in their learning according to learning style and level of challenge. Such choice maintains the interest and enthusiasm of students.
Teachers will take home a number of scaffolds and resources ready to use or share with their colleagues.
