Completing Legal Studies Exam Preparation will contribute 5 hours of NSW Education Standards Education Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptors 3.3.2 and 5.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

General Description

This course offers a practical guide for teachers on how to prepare students for the HSC Legal Studies examination. It has particular relevance for teachers who are looking for specific insights into the examination format and the HSC marking process. Attention is given to study techniques and in particular how to respond to HSC Legal Studies examination questions. The importance of Higher Order Thinking skills for Band 5/6 students is also a focus.

 

Audience

HSC Legal Studies teachers especially those new to the subject or wanting to improve the outcomes for potential higher band students

COVID-19 Event Information

All TTA venues continue to work with advice provided by the NSW Health Department in managing the risks associated with the current COVID-19 situation. While the current risk is low, TTA venues will be taking steps to help provide a safe environment for our courses. There will be increased cleaning and disinfecting of all areas, and venues will be providing ample hand sanitiser pumps. While venues will be taking all the care that they can, we also stress the need for course participants to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around them. If you are not feeling well or showing symptoms of COVID-19, please don’t attend this event. Wash your hands regularly. Avoid shaking hands where possible. Presenter

Neil Kusi-Appuah

Neil has degrees in (Science) Psychology and Economics, a Diploma of Education and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. He is currently Head Teacher Social Science at Five Islands Secondary College and works as a Masters of Education HSIE methods lecturer for Wollongong University. He has extensive experience as a HSC marker in Business Studies and Society and Culture as well as serving as SOM and Senior Marker in Legal Studies, was a member of the Legal Studies syllabus writing team, runs HSC student lectures teacher seminars and has authored Preliminary and HSC texts.
