The course is designed to cover the now core topic of the new Modern History syllabus.

Audience

Essential for new and existing Modern History teachers to deliver the CORE HSC topic with Nazi Germany as the focus study.

Sessions

Syllabus Changes and Rise of Dictatorships

1 hour and 30 minutes

This session focuses on the syllabus changes for the core HSC topic and ways to approach it.

This is followed by an examination of the historical context the post WWI period and the circumstances which led to the creation of dictatorships in Japan, Italy and Russia.

Nazi Germany to 1939

3 hours

This session will focus through the use of historical sources on the early years of Nazis in power, their mass appeal and gradual Nazification of Germany and its impact. It will include historical debates and teaching/learning/assessment approaches.

Dictatorships versus peace and security

1 hour and 30 minutes

This session will examine the broader goals and threats of Japanese and Nazi dictatorships and the challenges they presented in a world searching for peace and security through the League of Nations.

All TTA venues continue to work with advice provided by the NSW Health Department in managing the risks associated with the current COVID-19 situation. While the current risk is low, TTA venues will be taking steps to help provide a safe environment for our courses. While venues will be taking all the care that they can, we also stress the need for course participants to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around them. Lubna Haddad

Lubna taught History and Legal Studies passionately for 17 years, marked the HSC and oversaw SC marking and judging. She also worked for 10 years as Head of HSIE, and loved being involved in teacher training and mentoring, particularly focused on curriculum and assessment implementation. More recently, Lubna focused on students’ essay writing and HOT skills and runs HSC revision seminars, and online tutoring and mentoring.

Currently, Lubna is focused on developing additional Modern History courses, face-to-face and online, and is proudly assisting teachers and support staff through her work at the Independent Education Union (NSW/ACT).
