General Description

A growing number of educators are using Ableton Live and Push in the classroom. Their students are engaged in learning music, and empowered by making their own.

In April 2021, Ableton made the entry level of the ground-breaking  DAW - “Ableton Live 11 Intro'' available for free. This move has the potential to revolutionise classroom music education by providing free access to performance and recording software that professionals and teenagers both love to use.  Its loop based interface is a game changer and it has already provided thousands of students with wonderful musical experiences. Now, every student can have access to this incredible software.

We provide all of the resources you need to structure a Gig Based Approach to mastering Ableton Live 11 Intro. Participants will be introduced to Ableton Live 11 Intro by accepting a ‘gig’ to create a fully realised piece of music through a series of scaffolded performance/composition experiences.

We’ll cover all of the main features and equip you to help your students to master Live 11 Intro as they create a great sounding musical piece.

Course participants will also have ongoing access to a suite of Live 11 Intro digital instructional materials that can be provided to students upon returning to your classroom.

Gig Based Learning (GBL)

Gig Based Learning (GBL)

Gig Based Learning is a musically informed, philosophically driven learning design and facilitation process. It gives teachers tools to provide students with opportunities for active, engaging, real-world music(k)ing with/for an authentic audience. Building on the integrated learning experiences model - performance, composition, musicology, aural, GBL puts all of these experiences to work for the benefit of producing a great gig, contextualising the learning for the student so that it’s ‘just in time’ not ‘just in case’
