Course Description

This course is designed to assist educators in developing a greater understanding of cross-cultural competencies in and outside of the classroom.

Using the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) framework, the workshop also aims to improve practical applications when working with Pacific Islander and Māori learners.

All KLA teachers, specifically secondary and middle school executives, teachers, teacher aides, community engagement officers.

David Lakisa

Dr David Lakisa has worked in the education sector at various secondary, tertiary and private levels for the past 17 years. His PhD focused on Pacific culture and workplace diversity management at the University Technology Sydney (UTS) Business School and has experience as an education manager across Australia and the Pacific. A former PDHPE teacher at St Peter Claver College (QLD), Eagle Vale and Granville Boys High Schools, David has also been a sessional academic at Western Sydney University in the School of Education (2008-2016). In sum, David has been heavily involved in numerous research, education, government and community-based initiatives for Pacific Islanders and Maori in Australia and across the Pacific region for the past two decades.
