Course Description

A sound wall is a classroom display that is based on the phonology of our language; the different speech sounds (phonemes) are displayed rather than just the 26 letters of the alphabet are in a word wall.

 A sound wall is typically set up in two sections: vowels and consonants. Each phoneme represented includes an articulatory image and example words that illustrate the different graphemes for each phoneme.

This course will go through the 44 phonemes in a suggested yearly teaching order.

Chris Killey

Chris is a passionate teacher/author with 30 years of teaching experience. She holds a Bachelor of Education, Graduate Diploma in Special Education, Masters in Special Education and is a qualified “Literate for Life, LEM Phonic” instructor.

Chris has run a tutoring business since 1994. She was the coordinator of the SPELD Victoria Learning Centre for over 8 years. She is the author many spelling, grammar and maths books, the latest being co-author of the Australian Supplement of Words Their Way.

Chris has presented for SPELD, LDA, Pearson, all around Australia and has presented at many international conferences.
